Women of the world offered a great concert against domestic violence in Lawrence, MA![]()
Movimiento Pro Cultura (MPC) joined efforts with City of
Lawrence and Delamano, an civil organization fighting for women's
rights, to offer a concert against
domestic violence which was attended by hundreds of people. The band performing at the concert was "Women of the
World", a famous band based in Boston, Massachusetts.
The event was held at the North Common Educational Complex's Auditorium last Saturday December 6th, at 7:00 pm. Giorgia Renosto, from Italy, Annette Phillip, from India, Deborah Pierret, from Haiti and Ayumi Ueda, from Japon, all vocals, performed various rhythms and songs in several languages and ended the concert with the Cuban Son "El Cuarto de Tula." The event was coordinated by Maria Figuereo, President of the MPC, who was accompanied by Sandy Almonte, from Delamano and Wendy Luzon who was representing Mr. Danny Rivera, Mayor of Lawrence. Women of the World is a group created under the initiative of Ayumi Ueda, Japon, a Japanese student of Berklee College of Music and have traveled many places in the world performing songs in over 25 languages. Women of the World has worked with charities institurions in various countries around the world, like Haiti Earthquake, Pakistan and Japan. They were winners of several awards including the 2014 National Level champions of the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, the longest running a cappella competition in United States with a 30-year history.
