Movimiento Pro Cultura delivers scholarships
Movimiento Pro Cultura (MPC) concluded last Sunday, June 15th, the process of selection and assignment of scholarships to students residing in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts. The selected students come from low-income families and have been accepted in academic institutions in the state of Massachusetts.
The MPC delivered a total of five scholarships of $ 500.00, surpassing the total that was delivered last year (4 scholarships). Its president, Professor Maria Figuereo, explained that the purpose of the organization was to deliver seven scholarships. This goal could not be achieved because one of the selected schools could not meet the time requirements of the process, and were immersed in their own work to closing school year. These two scholarships will be offered next year well in advance.
The students favored with scholarships are Jasmine Lara, who will attend Notre Dame High School Cristo Rey, Lawrence - MA, Dionelis Dicent accepted in Bradford Christian Academy, Bradford - MA, and Luis Franco accepted into Saint John's Prep School, Danvers - MA. These students are graduates of the Lawrence Family Development Charter School. Lawrence High School had two favored students, Lluberes Isaac, who will attend the Faculty of Psychology at Newbury College, Newbury – MA, and Perla Almonte, who will enter the School of Nursing Northen Essex Community College, Lawerence - MA.
The money awarded by the MPC’s scholarship program this year, was raised during the celebration of "Raíces", a cultural show presented annually in the city of Lawrence, by the nonprofit organization. This year, “Raíces V” was devoted to Indian culture. The show was titled "India: Unity in Diversity."
